Nutgrove Veterinary Hospital has been caring for pets since 1992 and describes a team with over 80 years of combined experience. Based on its website and recent reviews, it appears set up for both routine care (vaccines, health checks, microchipping) and more involved diagnostics and referral-style work—especially cardiology—supported by in-house lab work and imaging (radiology, ultrasound, fluoroscopy) plus endoscopy.
Owners most often mention detailed cardiac consultations and scans where vets talk them through findings and next steps. Reviews also describe efficient work-ups for stomach problems, diagnosis of a hernia, and a “dual door system” in the building to reduce the risk of pets bolting. The clinic states it provides 24/7 emergency care for its own patients.
Corporate-group ownership isn’t stated in the information provided.

I can’t speak highly enough of this veterinary practice. Every single vet we have dealt with has provided outstanding care for my dog, Galileo. Most recently, Dr Tom Mullaney and Dr Rebecca Rennick expertly assisted Galileo with stomach issues. The diagnosis was efficient, thorough, and reassuring, and their care made a real difference to his recovery. Over time, we have also been treated by Dr William Hayden, Dr Fiona Higgins, and Dr Dara O’Hanlon, and without exception they have all provided the same consistently excellent standard of care. Each visit leaves me feeling confident that Galileo is in the best possible hands, and he has come away better every single time. The nursing staff and wider team are equally exceptional – warm, caring, patient, and genuinely compassionate. As a pet owner, that level of kindness and professionalism means everything. I couldn’t be happier with the service and care my dog has received here and would recommend this practice without hesitation.

Darragh really has let the team down with my most recent experience. My puppy Teddy was experiencing stomach issues, vomiting and diarrhoea. After taking his temperature (Teddy didn’t like this but Darragh was able to get a reading, I held Teddy in my arms and Darragh claimed Teddy went to bite him, this was not apparent from where I stood). Darragh asked if he could take Teddy upstairs so a nurse could hold him for an anal glands examination. He was gone for maybe 2 minutes, 30-50 seconds of which I could hear my puppy screaming….. Darragh then enters the room with my puppy on a tightly constricted leash around his neck and throws the leash at me “this behaviour is completely unacceptable from a dog, I cannot examine him”. Bearing in mind this was my second trip with my puppy, there was no issue when Fiona examined him a few months previous. Darragh then said he’d have to guess at what it was, gastroenteritis and to “give it a few days”. Anyone who’s owned dogs for years could guess that, as I have. Along with owning many pets over the years, I’ve dealt with many vets. Darragh has an appalling way of dealing with animals. It’s a shame as both Fiona and Rebecca have been amazing. Would not recommend Darragh and don’t think he should practice in consultations, stick to surgery where both human and animal don’t have to deal with his awful manner.

Our dog was referred here to see a specialist cardiologist. We were very impressed by the level of care, attention and detail during the consulation and susbsequent scans. Tom was excellent to deal with, explaining everything to us with great patience. Couldnt recommend more highly.

Put right at ease by all the staff and Tom. Best experience we've had at a veterinarians, our lil Pixie wasn't half as scared as she normally is. Super calming atmosphere and lovely waiting area. Staff are superb. Tom is an amazing Vetenarian - explained the cardiac scan in detail to help us understand exactly what was going on with our lil girl. Would highly recommend.

I feel compelled to write this as an act of justice for my beloved dog, Alfie, who had been a patient at Nutgrove for several years. Alfie was treated for hip dysplasia and received monthly medication administered by a nurse. From time to time, we saw Darragh Hanlon. In recent months, Alfie began to suffer from nosebleeds. I brought him in to see Darragh, who prescribed antibiotics. However, when discussing what to do if they didn’t work, he told me—very bluntly—that there were only two options: euthanasia or a rhinoscopy. The way this was communicated was not just abrupt, but incredibly insensitive. Darragh, from my past experiences, was never particularly warm, but I had believed he had Alfie’s best interests at heart. That belief changed after that visit. His manner was cold, dismissive, impatient and frankly, rude. It left me feeling hurt and alone at a time when I needed support and understanding. Our next visit was with Rebecca, and the contrast couldn’t have been more stark. She showed kindness and empathy towards both Alfie and me. Her approach reminded me of what veterinary care should feel like—compassionate, attentive, and human. More recently, I brought Alfie to Michael in Allcare, Walkinstown. From the moment we arrived, Michael showed genuine warmth and affection toward Alfie. Together, we discussed the heartbreaking decision to plan Alfie’s euthanasia. Michael sat down with me and walked me through the process with compassion, patience, and respect. After 13 wonderful years with Alfie, this is the kind of care and understanding he deserved. I am so grateful to Michael for restoring my faith in what veterinary care can and should be. And I am deeply relieved that Alfie’s final moments will be surrounded by dignity and love. Leaving Nutgrove was the right decision, and while I wish things had been different, I hope that by sharing this experience, it may encourage greater empathy, patience and sensitivity in future patient care.

My partner took our dog Rua to see Tom the other week, and he correctly diagnosed a hernia in our dog. Our family has had many years experience with this vet clinic and mainly deal with Tom and William.... They are the best and this is not like a business to them but they really love what they do. Tom like William are the best and take great care of your fur baby... Thank you so much for your professionalism and the time you take with our pets.

I absolutely love this clinic for bringing my dog to. She sees Dr Tom Mullany annually for a cardiology appointment and he treats her as if she is own pet with utmost care and respect. He is so gentle to Dolly and always talks me through the entire procedure and gladly answer any questions we may have. Thanks to Tom my dog was diagnosed with a heart condition very early on and she is doing really well on the medication he prescribed for her. The clinic itself is always immaculate and every person I’ve interacted with have always been pleasant and I love the dual door system in place to prevent any escape artists from making a dart out onto the busy year. Thanks so much for always looking after my girl Tom and team. 🙂

We sadly had to put our beloved Lulu to sleep on Tuesday. We were blessed to have Tom as our vet, the care Lulu received was exceptional -after nearly 14 years with the practice. I fully believe that thanks to Tom and his team and the care she received we were able to enjoy Lulu for longer than we had hoped. Tom’s humanity on Tuesday allowing her to pass at home was more than we could have hoped for and something that both my husband and myself take great comfort from. Very happy to recommend this practice and will in the future be happy to work with them again.
