Village Vets Kilmainham is part of the Village Vets network. From the latest reviews, it appears set up for both routine consultations and procedures (including surgery and dental work), with multiple owners describing clear explanations and structured plans (e.g., examination plus tests, then a treatment plan tied to blood results and dental work). Several reviews also mention staff taking time with anxious or reactive dogs, and one owner highlights compassionate support during an end-of-life visit. A recent 1‑star review conflicts with this, alleging a long wait during a breathing/choking episode and feeling the consultation resulted in minimal treatment despite a €65 charge.
Services and situations specifically referenced in reviews include
4.7 stars from 749 reviews. The latest reviews include several short 5‑star endorsements, one detailed 1‑star complaint about urgent care handling, and multiple longer positive accounts about clinical thoroughness and support. “”

I've been a longtime customer of Village Vets Kilmainham since they took over from Carey and Keane. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to my beloved dog Monty due to illness. Monty was my best friend, and it was truly the most difficult decision I've ever had to make. I cannot thank all the staff at Kilmainham enough for their kindness, compassion and support, particularly Siobhan. She is a credit to not only Village Vets, but also to her profession. Her gentle support and professionalism meant the world to us. We also have a nervous reactive dog, who can be difficult to manage however, the staff in kilmainham never run out of patience or understanding for him.

Ovi, Chiara, Claire and two other girls whose names we unfortunately didn't get, were just fantastic with our Bella. While she is still recovering from surgery, our experience in Village Vets was incredible. Thank you so much for your genuine care and attention.

This was my second — and hopefully last — bad experience with this clinic. I honestly don't believe the staff are well-qualified. Being kind and smiling is not enough when you work in this field; it's about solving problems and truly helping animals. Yesterday (October 16, 2025), I went back urgently because my dog had been choking for 15 minutes — he could only breathe with his mouth open and was clearly struggling. They told me I'd be seen in two minutes, but I waited for over an hour while other people with regular appointments were seen first. Apparently, watching a dog unable to breathe isn’t considered urgent. In desperation, I stepped outside to try to help him myself, and he started choking worse. I rushed back in and at that point, he began sneezing violently — to the point a piece of grass appeared in his nose (I even took a photo while trying to pull it out). Only when they saw me with my phone out did they begin to act with a bit more urgency. The whole time he was visibly in distress, his chest was tightening and he was clearly suffering. They finally took me into a room, opened his mouth, watched him breathe for a moment, and sent us home — €65 later. I even asked the vet to at least clean out his nasal passages and she refused. Her only suggestion was, “If you want, I could give him an anti-inflammatory, but I don’t know...” I find it shameful, honestly — first, that an animal in visible pain was left waiting while routine appointments were prioritized, and second, that they made me go into the consultation room only to do nothing. If you're not going to treat him, at least be transparent. My first bad experience was back in September when I had to travel with my dog by plane. I went in to ask whether he needed to get the rabies vaccine again. They said no, and I asked for a certificate stating he was fit to fly. I also mentioned that I would return in two weeks for the antiparasitic treatment. Instead of advising me to wait and do everything in one visit, they charged me around €65. When I expressed my confusion to the receptionist, I later received an email saying, “It's the owner's responsibility to be informed about what's required for traveling with their pet.” Quite the response, considering they work with animals and supposedly know the regulations — which they've advised me on in the past. I had to return again, and to top it off, they made sarcastic comments like, “Want another certificate? It is free of Charge“. Of course, I fully expect a response to this review with some kind of excuse — that's often the case. When the reviews are positive, everyone is happy, but when someone shares a negative experience, instead of offering a sincere apology or acknowledging the mistakes made, the tendency is to justify or deflect. That, in itself, speaks volumes.

Called there to get my dog checked.Straight away I knew I had chosen the right surgery to go to.The vet was soo competent in her delivery of the service. She listened respectfully to my dogs complaints as relayed by myself, she then also thoroughly carried out her own tests as well .She explained what she was going to do and brought the dog off after doing a few things while we were there and was back in about 15 mins with a plan . Depending on blood results etc which she thought should be ok she arranged for some work on his teeth which were in a bad way and were probably a source of some discomfort to our dog who is really a family member just like the rest of us. I have total and complete trust in this veterinary surgery and could not highly recommend it enough. All the staff are so professional and kind. I traveled from Dundalk to Dublin to use this practice as I do every time and will do again in the future if need be.If you really love your animal this is the place to go.Gerard D.

This is my cat Prince Miyann’s vet, few steps away from my home. I pretty much had a good experience with them, for check ups to operation schedules to recommendations for other services that they don’t offer yet. I love how friendly, peaceful and caring the vets are, my Miko is super happy too I guess which is odd, he usually hates vets but I guess it’s because they treat animals kindly which is really the most important thing for myself as a pet parent. So thank you!
