Village Vets Clondalkin

This clinic will ignore you and abandon your pets care when you need them most. We were lied to when we asked to see a dental specialist just as good as Lorraine for Shadow and we were not even put with an actual cat dentist. We were told by Roberta he should be ok in 2 weeks. We saw a specialist today and we were told 3 months. That’s some difference. We thought Roberta was also a specialist, this was the grounds on which we agreed to the procedure, but she’s not even a DENTIST. This explains and validates our entire disappointing experience. The standard of care and communication we received during Shadow’s recent surgery was far below what we previously experienced, and despite escalating the matter to the clinic, no resolution or support was provided. Shadow had a major dental surgery with Lorraine in December 2025 where 14 teeth were removed. He was returned clean, comfortable, and clearly well looked after, and his recovery was smooth. This recent surgery with Roberta was the complete opposite. Shadow was kept in for 8 hours, 2 teeth removed and returned with faeces on his fur, hair stuck in his eye, and a strong smell of faeces and surgical spirit that lasted 3 full days. His carrier was filthy, and we had to clean him immediately. He was visibly distressed, refused furniture and carpets for 24 hours, and slept on the wooden floor as if he felt too dirty to lie anywhere else. Communication with Roberta was minimal and dismissive. Concerns were reframed as misunderstandings, repeated questions were treated as an inconvenience, and we received generic explanations that did not address Shadow’s specific case. We raised concerns during the consultation about his lip entrapment, which was visible on the day of surgery. Instead of addressing it during the procedure or providing a clear plan, we were told to “see what happens”. This has left Shadow in ongoing discomfort, affecting his ability to eat and settle, and contributing to severe night‑time distress. This should have been corrected during surgery or taken seriously at consult, not dismissed as something some cats “just live with”. I’ve added some photos of Shadow living with it. Shadow was returned with a fresh stitched surgical wound inside his mouth yet smelling strongly of faeces and surgical spirit, and the clinic showed no concern for the infection risk this created. If he groomed himself, he would have ingested faecal matter, and this was not acknowledged at all. Despite multiple emails outlining his discomfort, disrupted behaviour, and the emotional toll this has taken, we received no guidance, no follow‑up plan, no formal apology, and no meaningful support from this clinic. Shadow is still uncomfortable, struggling to eat properly, and experiencing night‑time distress. The surgery itself may have been done well, but the post‑operative care was not. Animals should be returned clean and comfortable. He was not. We gave the clinic a chance to address our concerns, but with no resolution provided, I am posting this to warn others about the low standard of post‑operative care. Shadow was returned in a condition that did not meet the VCI Code of Professional Conduct, which requires vets to discharge animals clean, comfortable, and be protected from avoidable infection risks. If you want your pet cared for to a high VCI‑code standard, I would think twice about attending this clinic unless you are booked in with Lorraine.

My female Bernese had her laparoscopic spay done by the team here and she was so well looked after. They called me straight away when she was out of surgery with an update and let me know when she had eaten and I could take her home. The pre- and post-op instructions were super clear and I loved the care they showed her as she can be a little nervous. Very happy with the service.

Went to get my cats neutered amd they were amazing as well as extremely accommodating schedule wise aswel

Just send a big thanks for all the staff at village vets Clondalkin , for being so kind and looking after my precious ❤️ pet. Very pleased with all they did for her . Very professional, friendly, patience and prompt response.

Had Lola and Tilly down. Lola loves visiting but Tilly (cat) was a bit unsure as it was her first visit in a year but Pietro put her at her ease. All in all a good experience. 😊

My elderly grandmother who just came back from a hospital appointment got the bus all the way down to collect medication for her dog, she went in collected and paid for them and then politely asked to use the bathroom as she had been on the bus for a good while she said she’s sorry for asking but she doesn’t think she will make it home the staff member went to ask the vet and then said came back and said the vet said no, this is horrible my grandmother and grandfather have paid thousands to this vets between operations and medications for there pet over the years and this is how loyal customers are treated, don’t go here they’re just money hungry don’t care about customers, horrible behaviour

My dog 5 yr old shitzu cross was diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament (RCL ) on Monday .Spoke to the vet and was told would need surgery to repair it .was given an estimate for this and was about to go ahead with the surgery. The thought of my dog being in a cage while recovering from surgery made me think about getting a second opinion . I did so by an orthopaedic independent vet and was told that the Cruciate Ligament isn’t the issue . What’s also annoying is that it cost me over €600 for them to misdiagnose my dog . I have used this place over the years with all of my dogs , but will not be using them again .
